New Unit: Human Geography

For the next 2.5 weeks, we will study the basics of Human Geography (Chapter 4). Our unit will cover the topics of culture, population, government, economy, and globalization. You have a Study Guide that was given to you today that will carry you through the unit with vocabulary and analysis questions. If you fill it out correctly during the unit, it will be your study source for the quiz a few weeks from now. Here are the Unit Objectives:

Human Geography

Knowledge Objectives
1.      Describe: Culture, Ethnic Group, Cultural Diffusion.  Determine how cultures are different.
2.      Describe 3 Examples of Culture Traits.
3.      Analyze 2 ways that culture diffuses.
4.      Delineate: Population, Population Density.  How does population differentiate based on geography?
5.      Calculate: Population Density, Population Growth Rate
6.      Differ between Urban, Suburban, and Rural.  Using specific examples, how is life different in each of these settings?
7.      Describe how leaders take power, the amount of freedom, the economic control in: a Democracy, Monarchy, Communist Government, Dictatorship
8.      Differ between Secular and Theocracy. 
9.      Differ between Traditional, Free Market, and Command Economies. Match each with a type of government and an example country
10.  GDP per capita- How it helps us determine how well a country’s economy is
11.  List Factors that help us differ between developed and developing countries
12.  Explain how the world is connected through: Globalization, Interdependence, United Nations, Humanitarian Aid, World Bank.  How does technology assist in these connections?
13.  Illustrate the importance of trade between nations across the globe. Explain examples of global trade.

1.      Reflect on a piece of reading using specific EVIDENCE from the text (Current event)
2.      Differ between primary and secondary sources. Defend why you think the source is primary or secondary.
3.      Identify key steps in a reading passage that describes a process (Flow Map)

5.      Open/Save Stratalogica projects; Post Current Event write-ups on Stratalogica (using pins)
