As part of our Africa
Unit, the seventh-graders are learning about the conflicts, civil wars, and
genocide that have torn many African countries apart. One powerful movie, Hotel Rwanda, portrays the atrocities that
have happened in several places throughout Africa. We will plan to view and
discuss this film starting next week (February 7th).
Hotel Rwanda
is a PG-13 film based on real-life events and can be found on Netflix, Redbox,
iTunes, Google Play, etc. It is one of the few films I show in my classroom and
engages students within part of our curriculum that is difficult to portray
with only lecture and discussion. We will watch segments of the film and
discuss the topics that arise.
If
you DO NOT wish for your
child to watch the film, then please return the form sent home with them signed by Wednesday, February 5th,
2014. Students who do not watch the
film will have other activities to work on relating to the curriculum. If you have questions regarding any of the
information, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
Thanks!
